Assyrians Hold Traditional Mass in Southeast Turkey
Hundreds of Assyrians from Turkey and abroad convened at the 12th Great Ritual of the Syriac Kadim Community in the eastern Turkish province of Adıyaman on Wednesday at the Mor Petrus-Mor Pavlus Church.
The metropolitan bishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the province of Adıyaman, Melki Ürek, who is also responsible for Syriac churches in Şanlıurfa, Malatya, Hatay, Mersin and Elazığ, said they were praying for love and fellowship. "Our community, some of whom left here for various reasons and have come together here on the anniversary of Mor Petrus and Mor Pavlus' death, prayed for peace, love and fellowship in the ritual. We are people who live here together in peace and we are as one," he said.
While noting that Mor Petrus and Mor Pavlus are two important apostles, Ürek continued: "We accept that they have an important place in humanity with their lives, spirituality, philosophy and their fidelity to Jesus. When we take these saints as an example, we human beings can think about our faith in God. With these holy men's prayers, we wish unity and solidarity for our country and peace for the world."
