Syrians Must Get Permission to Protest Under New Law
(Reuters) -- Syria imposed a new law requiring protesters to get permission from the Interior Ministry before holding demonstrations, the state news agency said on Tuesday.
Two lawyers, who did not want to be named, said the clause effectively kept in place a ban on the right of assembly in Syria, which is witnessing unprecedented pro-democracy protests against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad.
